I love these tumblers. I ordered a white one in May and I liked it so much that I ordered a purple one in August. I use them every weekday. They are slim enough to fit perfectly in my car's cup holder. I find it much easier to keep a grip on because it is slimmer than other cups. The outside is not smooth; it is a little bit rough textured, which also helps me hold on to it. The straw is metal and has grooves in it that are nice for the straw hole in the lid to close onto. I haven't used it this way, but I'm sure you could use it without the straw because the part that the straw goes into slides back a little, so you could get a drink without the straw. It also comes with a straw brush to clean the straw with. I put the cup and the lid on the top rack, and the straw in the silverware basket of the dishwasher and they wash fine. So far, they still look like new. I use mine for ice water or tea and they do keep it cold for my workday. It does not sweat. It is not leak proof in that you can't turn it upside down and expect it not to leak. It is sort of leak proof in that if you accidentally knock it over on your desk or counter it will leak very little before you grab it and upright it. It is not made for active stuff like hiking or biking. I would definitely buy again.
